The sons of Paul McCartney and John Lennon release the song Primrose Hill

James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon have teamed up to release a new song together, following in the footsteps of their world-famous fathers.

The sons of Paul McCartney and John Lennon have collaborated on a song called Primrose Hill, which was released on Friday 12th April – and fans have gone wild.

Their fathers are remembered as one of the strongest collaborations in music and it seems that fans are equally impressed with James and Sean’s new duo.

The two men, who were uncannily like their fathers, wrote this song, which follows James’ song Beautiful, which he co-wrote with Paul.

Sean, 48, is the second child of late model John, while James is Paul’s only son and youngest child, whom he adopted with ex-wife Linda Eastman.

James, 46, shared news of the release on his Instagram account on Friday, along with a selfie of him and Sean, looking uncannily like their parents.

He wrote: ‘Primrose Hill is here! Today I’m very excited to share my latest single written by my good friend @sean_ono_lennon.’

‘With the release of this song it feels like we’re really getting the ball rolling and I’m really excited to continue sharing music with you.’

James received the support of his father, Beatles legend Paul, 81, who shared the news of the song on his social media page.

In a post on Facebook, Paul wrote: ‘My son James has a new song out called Primrose Hill – check it out!’

He also showed appreciation for Sean, and wrote: ‘Big love to Sean Ono Lennon who wrote the song.’

Fans also shared their love for the song, taking to X to share their thoughts, writing: ‘I know I’m biased but I just heard Ringo Starr’s new single February Sky along with the song James’ new Primrose Hill. and Sean and you love ALL the songs!

So no one was going to tell me that Sean Lennon and James McCartney sang a song together???; James McCartney and Sean Lennon are out in song today, Primrose Hill. In fact, it’s sad and beautiful. Why is that a good joke?’.

Noting the family resemblance, one said: ‘Sean Lennon and James McCartney together is so weird because they just look like slightly different versions of their dads and they scare me.’

James and Sean have both worked as solo artists and this marks the first time they have worked together in collaboration.

Sean was involved in several bands, which included Cibo Matto, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and The Claypool Lennon Delirium.

James has released solo albums and worked with his parents on projects.

He appeared on Paul’s 1997 album Flaming Pie as well as his 2001 recording Driving Rain. He released Wild Prairie in honor of his mother after her death in 1998.

James marked his return to music this year by releasing the song Beautiful.

In October last year, Paul said how he would have been filled with guilt if he had not mended his friendship with John before he was killed.

Beatles singer John was shot at the age of 40 by unsuspecting fan Mark Chapman outside his home in New York City in 1980.

John left The Beatles in 1969 and was embroiled in legal battles over the band’s back catalog which caused tension between him and his former songwriting partner Paul.

They rekindled their friendship in the mid-1970s and Paul spent time at John’s New York home with his second wife Yoko Ono.

She admitted that she would have been ruined if she hadn’t had the chance to mend the cracks in her relationship with John before he was killed.

Paul said on the McCartney: A Life in Lyrics podcast: ‘In the end I was very happy when he was killed, that I had a good time with him before that happened.

‘It would have been the worst thing in the world if he had just been killed and we still had a bad relationship. That would have been a huge guilt trip for me.

‘Luckily, we were friendly, we discussed how to bake bread.

‘You have to remember that I took him to court, I took his Liverpool friends, lifelong friends, to court. There are many things to be done.’
